<description>I think creativity is the cornerstone of public relations. Writing is one offshoot of creative thinking. Young PR folks will need to bring bold ideas to the table to breakthrough the deafening noise of this fragmented marketplace. Clients, managers, etc. are too busy to spoon feed them ideas and content. Be inspired or get fired young ones. </description>

<description>[...] Dave Fleet’s 14 Key Attributes for New Public Relations Professionals and Vadim Lavrusek’s 8 Must Have Traits of Tomorrow’s Journalists, are two blogs that express the different skills it takes to be a journalist or PR person today than the skills it took before the internet. The Internet has changed media through the way a story is presented. Using the Internet, news isn’t only told through traditional text like newspapers, but it can be told through audio, video, blogs, links, and social networking sites. The new PR person today needs to be able to use the Internet and its technology effectively to make a well-produced multimedia story. Since I was born shortly before the Internet, I have grown up with using it my whole life. It’s easy for me to say I have possessed these skills straight from the get go, but as blogging increases I need to increase my blogging as well. Along with being able to write, investigate and produce online media, today’s PR person needs to be an open-minded, friendly and be able to communicate with the audience. Today’s news is connected to social networking sites, blogs and discussion boards with its readers and myself as a PR person needs to be able to see what the audience wants from the company I work for and how I can help the company achieve the audiences needs by being open-minded about their concerns. The audience needs to be able to trust my news I produce through my credibility, media and work ethic. These traits would have to be the most important even thought they almost sum up all the traits the articles listed. In my opinion, no specific trait is best because a PR person should have multiple traits. The skills that might have surprised me were the business skills. I do think PR people should know the basics of business, but entrepreneurship skills would be only for people who want to start a business, which I would think we be a separate job from PR. An attribute I thought the blogs only touched on was being able to work with other journalists and PR people. PR people need to be willing to help others and receive information in an environment where many other journalists are investigating breaking news. LikeBe the first to like this post.
